Toronto-based artist, Gina D’Aloisio (BFA) utilizes interdisciplinary sculpture and installation, her primary material focuses are hyperreal mold-making and found objects. Through the replication of flesh and body with silicone, in combination with found objects she explores the human relationship to the material world. Her work is a reflection of the times, employing satire and irony to both poke fun at, and seriously contemplate our world.
Her focus lies in exploring how bodies and identities are influenced by social conditions, drawing from personal knowledge and experience while analyzing the overall zeitgeist of the time. By distorting and combining silicone with everyday objects, D'Aloisio questions these themes and sheds light on important issues that people are facing today.
D'Aloisio has received numerous awards, including the Career Catalyst: Project Grants for New Generation Artists from the Ontario Arts Council, the Ignite Gallery SCIN Award, and the OCADU Sculpture and Installation Faculty Award. She has also participated in various artist residencies, such as the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity in Canada and the Napoule Artist Foundation Residency in France. In 2021, her work was featured in a New York Times article titled "The Boom and Bust of TikTok Artists”.
Recent exhibitions include group shows at Maison Depoivre and The Artist Project, as well as solo exhibitions at Beaver Hall Gallery and Muse Gallery in Toronto. D'Aloisio has additionally co-curated and participated in a three-person group show at Remote Gallery in Toronto.
The artist wishes to acknowledge the support of the Ontario Arts Council and the Province of Ontario toward this exhibition.
We are pleased that Gina's talk is part of the first Canadian Art Hop, organized by the Art Dealers Association of Canada. The Canadian Art Hop aims to spotlight Canada’s diverse and dynamic tapestry of arts and culture programming at commercial galleries, artist-run centres, and public museums and galleries nationwide. Numerous organizations will participate in the inaugural Art Hop this month across eight provincial zones. Here’s what you can expect to see between April 25-28 in London 🌳✨:
