Artist Talk - Jin Won Han

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

7:00pm

Jin Won Han was born in 1973 in Seoul, Korea and studied metal crafts for 6 years at the Seoul National University. In 1999, she moved to the US to study glass in Rhode Island School of Design. After she graduated, she taught glass for two years in Rochester Institute of Technology and has provided several visiting lectures and demonstrations internationally. She is currently working as an artist in residence in the University of Western Ontario.

Driven from her experiences in the new world, her early works in the US has been focused on expressing feelings of fragility, ambiguity and unfamiliarity. Eventually her subjects expanded back to her life-long interests such as nature, science and myth. She is interested in creating fusions among different disciplines. Her recent work is focused on making large-scale sculptures with borosilicate glass.
