Ben Benedict is a Decorated Veteran and former Boy Scout Leader. He’s also a recognized cultural leader, educator, and social justice activist. In 2012, he was recognized as a “Community Trailblazer” by Pride London Festival for his contribution to London’s LGBTQ2+ and Cultural communities as well as an “Influential Londoner” by London Community Foundation. As a “Business of the Arts” speaker he presented Canada wide “Marketing 2.0” via a CARFAC Webinar Series for Visual Artists in 2014.
As a Bricoleur (mixed-media artist) working in the London Regionalist Tradition, his artistry has been exhibited across Ontario. He was part of the Ontario Public Service (OPS) Pride Network’s exhibition Queer Landscapes, Queer Journeys, the first LGBTQ2+ exhibit ever at the John B. Aird Gallery, located then in the Macdonald Block of the Province of Ontario Legislature in 2015. He received a Research & Creation Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2020 and numerous OAC Exhibition Assistance Grants. As a curator he developed London’s Annual Pride Art Show (2002-2012) into a juried exhibition with international participation, and in 2013, Inventive Women: Reinterpreting the Canadian Landscape at the Woodstock Art Gallery.
