Made to Measure is a collection of objects that begin a dialogue between structure, space, and the body. For this work, I began with my own body to create sculptures that relate to personal and specific scales. Borrowing aesthetics from Modern architecture, these works challenge the practice of standardized construction of spaces. Therefore, the manner in which they fit around and against my body will always vary from that of the viewer. This approach sets in motion a parallaxed understanding of spaces, and the possible intimacies and discomforts that are present in our own built environment. These works are both objects and structures that offer a familiar way of viewing and experiencing spaces.
About the Artist:
Andrea's practice explores the variable connections to sites and place through research on the built environment, non-places, and the notion of belonging. Working mostly within sculpture and installation, her work also includes site-specific performance, drawing, and text. Before completing her MFA at Concordia University, Andrea worked at various art galleries, and was a board member at the Hamilton Artists Inc. Andrea has exhibited in Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland. She has been invited to speak and participate in residencies in Windsor, and British Columbia.
