Nobody Cares About Art but You

Friday, March 11, 2011 to Friday, April 1, 2011

Opening reception: Friday, March 11, 7:00pm

The Other Gallery is a nomadic commercial gallery operated by Winnipeg artist Paul Butler. The gallery focuses on the introduction of emerging and overlooked Canadian artists to both national and international audiences through participation in art fairs, exhibition partnerships with other galleries, and alternative programming like The Collage Party - a traveling experimental studio where artist make art in a social setting for days. The Other Gallery’s strategy is to bring contemporary Canadian art to an international audience, as opposed to waiting for that audience to come to us to discover it.

For Forest City Gallery, The Other Gallery is introducing the work of two overlooked Winnipeg contemporaries of Butler’s - Jake Koscuik and Ray Peterson. Kosciuk is known by Winnipeg’s ‘Royal Art Lodge’ generation as one of it’s most underrated and prolific artists. Peterson’s work, on the other-hand, has remained largely underground. Both Kosciuk and Peterson’s work are prime examples of the sensibilities and sense of humor that Winnipeg has developed an international reputation for over this past decade.
