Statement in Support of Fanshawe Fine Arts: Call to Action

Updated: 4 days ago

Forest City Gallery is disheartened to hear the news of the program cut to the Fanshawe Fine Art Advanced Diploma. The Fine Art program at Fanshawe is a crucial art training and professional development educational program that prepares students for an enriching career in the arts sector. We ardently believe in this program's value as a key player in the London arts sector with its long-standing community impact and advancement of the economic drive of the local arts and culture. FCG is proud to echo the London arts community's stance that the program is worth saving and supporting after 56 years in operation.

The community impact of art is not something that can be easily measured by a budget line. Art has the power to create change, connection, critical engagement, reflection, and importantly, bring about well-being in communities. Art may seem like a luxury or discretionary, but art and culture are integral to building a vibrant city. Being an artist is not solely a profession or vocation, but a lifelong role that one takes on within the community.

We have heard FCG community member's accounts of the impact of the Fanshawe Fine Art community, and we want to communicate these testimonials to the decision-makers at Fanshawe to advocate for the program's sustainable continuation. If you are a current student, faculty, or alumni at Fanshawe Fine Arts or have otherwise benefitted from a partnership with the program, we encourage you to fill out the Google Form to include in our letter of support.
